The Buckeye Prep Charging Thanksgiving Shootout tipped off Friday night in Columbus, Ohio with a slate of 3 games. The opening game featured the 2032 Buckeye Prep Hoopsters versus the Riley Decker Underdogs. This match up involved 2 fundamental and well coached teams, both of whom actually played man-to-man defense! Although the Hoopsters opened up an early lead, the Underdogs battled back to close the gap a bit.; however, by the time the final horn sounded, Buckeye Prep would hold on to secure a comfortable 33-18 win. Buckeye Prep was led in scoring by Jordan Taylor, who dropped a game-high 15 points, followed by David Johnson III, who added another 8 points and Hayes Emmons with 6 points. Next up for Buckeye Prep is NYBA Elite bright and early Saturday morning.
Game two of the night pitted two 4th grade teams in Team Charging Elite and Develop. On the strength of a full court diamond press, Team Charging ran out to an early lead that they never relinquished. With only 1 true ball handler in Zander Pughsley, the Charging press proved too tough. Consequently, Team Charging cruised to a lopsided 44-28 win. Leading scorers for Team Charging included Elliott Trautner (14), Jack Shaker (11) and Rush Anstine (8), while Zander Pughsley lead Develop with 12 points, followed by Jabrae Bowers who added 11 points.
The night cap ended up being another lopsided affair, as the 3rd grade All-Ohio Red easily got by Team Charging Elite by a score of 39-17. All-Ohio’s full court press gave the Charging all kinds of problems, as did Jedi Haynes-Lee, who had a big time performance to the tune of 22 points. All-Ohio’s Alec Moore contributed 9 points, while Zion Lancaster led Team Charging with 10 points. Next up for All-Ohio Red is Team BNU tomorrow afternoon.
