The opening night of the Buckeye Prep Pre-Season Shootout tipped off at New Covenant Church last night and offered up several competitive games as well as opportunities for a few impressive individual performances.
In the 5th grade division, Worthington Red got off to a hot start with a 54-42 win over Lancaster. David Johnson III paced Worthington with a game-high 16 points, while Luca Susi added another a markers. For Lancaster, Kyle Darfus logged in a strong game with a game-high 17 points. Pickerington notched a 35-26 win over Olentangy Orange and was led in scoring by Ryan Parsons, who dropped a game-high 15 points. Gahanna started their 2023/2024 campaign with a 38-25 victory over Olentangy Orange. Derrick Peryyman was deadly from beyond the arc and finished with an impressive game-high 23 points. Although his team came up a little short, Olentangy’s Jaden Tonyemba played well, finishing with a team-high 13 points.
The 4th grade division featured 2 games, including a 41-32 victory for Reynoldsburg over Gahanna. Zion Lancaster had a huge night to the tune of a game-high 16 points. Tony Jones Jr. finished with a team-high 15 points in a loosing effort. In a later game, Pickerington notched a 40-34 win over Lancaster. Alec Moore was the man in that game, finishing with a team-high 16 points. Although his team came up a little short, Lancaster’s Anderson Swartz was impressive, on the way to a 23 point night.
