Day 2 of the Buckeye Prep Report Pre-Season Shootout consisted of a slate of 6 games, and proved to be “separation day” for at least one team. Olentangy Blue made a statement on Saturday with 2 victories, which included wins over the defending COBA champions, Gahanna (32-20) and Olentangy Liberty (37-19). The back court duo of Jack Shaker and Jordan Davies proved to be formidable, as either player is capable of double digit scoring and/or taking over a game. Not only can the duo put up big numbers offensively, but both Shaker and Davies can defend at a high level. We already knew that Shaker could be a problem, but we did not know that Davies would develop into such a problem as well!
Both Gahanna and Reynoldsburg finished 1-1 on Saturday, as Gahanna (2-1) started Saturday with a 28-17 win over rival Reynoldsburg (2-1), but suffered a defeat to Olentangy Blue 20-32. In the Reynoldsburg game, Derrick Perryman led all scorers with a game-high 12 points, while Jordan Taylor finished with 7 points. For Reynoldsburg, Nolan Moore paced the Raiders with 8 points, and Jase Owens added 5 points.
In the Gahanna versus Olentangy Blue game, Jordan Davies went off for gaudy 16 points, and Jack Shaker added 9 points. Derrick Perryman and Jordan Taylor both finished with 7 points that game. Reynoldsburg would rebound in their second game of the day with a 23-14 victory over New Albany. In that game, Nolan Moore led his team with 7 points, while Jase Owens poured in 5 points. New Albany’s Elliott Trautner led his team with 5 points.
Pickerington (2-1) rebounded nicely from their Friday night stumble with wins over Olentangy Liberty (31-16) and New Albany (33-16). Against Olentangy Liberty, Chris Blalock exploded for a game-high 11 points, while Parker Green and Ryder Hill poured in 6 points apiece. For the record, both New Albany and Olentangy Liberty dropped both games on Saturday to finish 0-3 so for on the weekend. Every team will advance to single elimination bracket. Top seeds in order are #1 Olentangy Blue (3-0), #2 Gahanna (2-1), #3 Pickerington (2-1), #4 Reynoldsburg (2-1), #5 New Albany (0-3) and #6 Olentangy Liberty (0-3). Stay tuned to our final report.
