In an overtime thriller, Ryan Perryman’s 3rd grade Gahanna Lions team defeated Olentangy Blue to claim the championship of the COBA Holiday Tournament. The championship game represented a rematch, as the Lions had easily defeated Olentangy Blue earlier in pool play. The Lions’ trek to the championship included wins over Olentangy Berlin White (27-17), Olentangy Berlin Blue, and Olentangy Blue (twice). With their 4-0 run this week, the Lions have moved up to the #1 spot in the COBA 3rd Grade Rankings.
In addition to following the teams, we attempted to identify players who stood out for their respective teams. To this end, below is a list of players who logged in standout performances over the course of the tournament. Special mention should be given to Gahanna’s Derrick Perryman, who led his team in scoring throughout the tournament. Not only does Perryman get buckets, most of which are on the perimeter, he shoots the heck out of the ball. Moreover, his court vision and passing skills are elite, especially for a kid with his size. Bottom line… this kid has a bright future!
We also need to give a shout out to Reynoldsburg’s Nolan Moore, who also led his team in scoring over the course of the tournament. Blessed with good size, Nolan can really light it up when his game is on! In addition, Olantangy Blue’s Jack Shaker was spectacular on day two of the event. Shaker has an elite skill set for his age. Shaker is clearly his team’s driving force, as well as one of the top 3rd graders in Central Ohio. A 3-level scorer, Shaker’s game is beyond his years. Congratulations to Coach Perryman, his players and fans for a big time performance!
