
By the time the horn sounded in the 3rd grade championship game of the Nike Grassroots tournament, the Buckeye Prep Hoopsters had ridden a 5-0 record to the title! On the strength of pressure defense, excellent ball movement and execution, the #7 ranked Buckeye Prep Hoopsters cruised their first championship of the season.
The Hoopster’s trek to the title included wins over All-Ohio Red (32-20), Ohio Hoopsters Monarchs (25-13), BNU Avengers (49-33), All-Ohio Red (40-16) and Ohio Hoopsters Monarchs (35-11). A special shout goes to Chauncey Cumberlander and his Monarchs team for advancing to the final game with a thrilling victory against Charging Elite in the semifinals.
For the tournament, Buckeye Prep was led in scoring by Jordan Taylor (MVP), Tony Jones Jr. Rhett Bradley and David Johnson III, all of whom were selected to the All-Tournament Team. Caleb Towns and Hammond Russell made the All-Tournament Team for the Monarchs. Next up for the Hoopsters is the Coast2Coast-sponsored Music City Premier in Nashville, TN.
