The 9U AAU Nationals tipped off in Orlando, FL today and right from the start the event featured some juicy matchups! Case in point, early in the day, nationally ranked Memphis War Eagles and Team Threat/Durant hooked up in pool play. All we can say, Moe Miller (5’1″/CG/2032/Memphis, TN) IS A PROBLEM! Miller absolutely controlled the game from the tip, both from the perimeter with deep jump shots, as well as his ability to get to and finish at the basket. The lefty was virtually unguardable in the first half as evidenced by his 16 points. Too big for most guards and too quick and fast for bigger players. Miller is a confident player who is strong with the ball and built to score. Not only did he score, but he got the ball to other shooters as well.
For the sake of full disclosure, Trey Clemens (5’2″/WF/Virginia) was tabbed to guard Miller in the second half of what was heading for a blowout, and he contained Miller for much of the second period; however, Miller was still effective and ended up with a game-high 24 points. Oh, his scoring outburst wasn’t a fluke, as Miller dropped a game-high 17 points in the opening game. Although you won’t see Miller’s name on many rankings (other than ours), we saw him last year and was impressed with his game and had him on our list. With that being said, he’s better than when we saw him last year. In fact, although there were several nationally ranked kids on the same court as Miller, he was clearly the best player in the gym! From what we saw, Miller needs an upgrade in his national ranking immediately! We can’t wait to see him again tomorrow!
