In terms of the 3rd grade division, the Nike Summer Championship proved to be a great final test of the 2023 travel basketball season, as 5 teams listed in our Buckeye Prep Power Rankings participated in the event. The list of ranked teams included: #1 Buckeye Prep Hoopsters; #2 Charging Elite; #3 TNBA Ohio, #6 Y-Elite Superstars; and #7 All Ohio.

Not surprising, the event featured several very competitive games, not only in pool play, but on Sunday as well. Case in point, on Saturday, we watched a thriller between Y-Elite and Charging Elite, as the game was not won until the final seconds of the game. The next day, the Hoopsters ran into an inspired All-Ohio team that competed well into the second half. With that being said, at the end of the day, the top 2 teams in the state played their way into the championship game.

For Buckeye Prep, the trek to the title included wins over MKU Western, PA (47-19), TNBA Ohio (37-25), All-Ohio twice (48-18 & 39-28), and Charging Elite (38-23). Charging Elite’s path to the title game included wins over Y-Elite, D1 Elite and TNBA Ohio. In addition to the competitive nature of the teams, there were several players who logged in impressive performances. Below is our list of standout performers from the event.

All in all, the event was a great way to rap up the season, and we’re really looking forward to the Ohio Top 25 Combine, the next big event for this class, that will bring together the top 40 players in the class in Ohio for a full day of skill development and competition! Stay tuned for our reports from the event.
