Although we were unable to catch much action in the Girl’s Division of the Jr. Brick League, we did get the chance to watch the 7th/8th grade division championship game yesterday. It was a very competitive game, with Team NeXt taking the title with a 38-28 win over Haynes-Lee.  After logging in a 9-point performance, MVP honors were extended to Cam Elliott (5’3″/SG/2025/Delaware).  Other standout performers for Team NeXt were Sophie Ziel (5’6″/PG/2025/Powell) and Claire Mikola (5’4″/PG/2025/Powell). Zay Shepherd (5’6″/SG/2026/Columbus) was the leading scorer for Haynes-Lee with 10 points.  According to Coach Dave Ziel, the Jr. Brick League Championship caps an AAU season that saw the team only loose 1 game. Team NeXt finished 8-0 in Jr. Brick League play. It’s important to note that Ziel’s squad played up a grade or two for most of the season. Coach Ziel attributes his team’s success to “selflessness.”  Congratulations to the Team NeXt players, coaches and fans!
